We had the pleasure of chatting to Connie on how to live a more sustainable life at home.
1. We love your passion towards sustainability. What inspired you to start building a more sustainable lifestyle?
I’ve always been curious in how the world works, and growing up, there was a landfill in my suburb which really piqued my curiosity as to how we as a society deal with waste.. by burying it. This, coupled with learning how previous generations were, has inspired me to learn more about a slower, more conscious way of living.
2. What are three easy habits we can all implement in our day to day life, to achieve a more sustainable lifestyle?
Diverting food scraps from landfill - whether that be through composting, or through using the new FOGO (food and organic bins) that are starting to be rolled out here in Melbourne.
Making do - reusing, upcycling, borrowing if possible! I love when friends borrow pieces from my wardrobe, for example, so that clothes can be worn and reworn again, instead of going out to buy an item just for one event.
Purchasing thoughtfully and from businesses working towards a sustainable mindset.
3. Why do you think it is important to buy sustainable furniture and decor?
As furniture can be a big, long term purchase, it’s great to make sure you’re finding quality pieces that will last a long time. That way, you can make the most of your furniture purchase and honour all the effort that went into creating that piece!
4. How can someone tell if a piece of furniture is sustainable? What should we be looking for?
When shopping, look at the practices they have in place including packaging practices, and how materials are sourced, for example whether they are using recyclable or recycled materials, whether natural wood is sustainably sourced.
5. How would you describe your interior style?
Natural textures, cosy and full of light. I love maximising light in our house through using light colours to diffuse it throughout. Beautiful wood pieces, woven textures, house plants and warm tones are all things I gravitate towards.
6. What do you like most about Kave Home?
I love foremost, the quality of their pieces, as well as their considered designs. I just know these pieces will last for a really long time in our home. Also, the packaging often comes thoughtfully packaged with most of it being recycled, which I appreciate.
7. What’s your favourite Kave Home piece?
Probably my Nalu journal desk. I get so many people DMing me about it every time I post about it. It’s so beautifully made, and will stand the test of time. I use it every morning and evening to journal on, and it is often a great spot for laptop work too.
